Have you ever pondered about the ingredients in the bottles that crowd your dresser ?? If not, then it's the right time. We love to buy makeup that costs thousands of rupees. We blindly crave for the blingy makeup brands. But we never think about the stuff we are putting on our bodies.
This blog deals with chemicals that are found in the make up which are haram.
LETS START
THE RED (CARMINE)
Unfortunately the red pigment present in lipsticks, lip colors, lip glosses and in eye shades is mostly neither synthetic nor plant based but it is derived from beetles (insect).
- Cochineal
- E120
- CI 75470
- natural red
- crimson lake
- MAC
- LORAL
- MAYBELLINE
Brands such as Tarte (vegan range), elf and Body shop (vegan range) use synthetic or plant based pigment
Note: Pink, peach and orange shade may also have carmine. Please check the ingredients before buying any shade or brand.
ALCOHOL
Alcohol is used as a solvent in makeup industry. Consuming alcohol is forbidden in Islam. The makeup having ETHYL ALCOHOL is HARAM. Lanolin Alcohol is derived from animal matter so it is also not halal
But following derivatives of alcohol are considered halal
- Stearyl Alcohol
- Cetearyl Alcohol
- Myristyl Alcohol
- Behenyl Alcohol
- Cetyl Alcohol
- Benzyl Alcohol
- Denatured Alcohol
ANIMAL FAT
A product having animal fat cannot be used by a Muslim. Only if its form a halal animal slaughtered according to Islamic laws. As most of the brands use pork fat so makeup with animal fat is HARAM.
GELATIN
Gelatin is a common ingredient found in make up. Gelatin obtained from pig or nonzabiha animal is HARAM.
BEST MAKEUP
Finding halal makeup is really a task, but if you have a damn crush on makeup them you really have to make an effort.
Go for vegan makeup (Veganism is practice to minimize the use of animal products. Vegans only use plants. And the vegan makeup is also plant based makeup)as Veganism is becoming a trend in the west, so many famous brands have introduced vegan makeup. Though vegan makeup is plant based but please still check the ingredients.
